Lego Adventure: Creator Transport Ferry Part 1

Going straight for the big one

As mentioned in this previous posting last December, when I was very much into Lego some time ago, I spent quite a bit of time browsing through the various sets released in the past. Brickset: LEGO Set Guide is a very good website on Lego related resources by the way. I didn't pay any attention to Lego in the past, so all of them are new to me. ^^ Not surprisingly, there were a few monster-sized sets that came out every now and then from Technic, Star Wars and several other series. Most of them were released years ago and are now discontinued. You can still get the secondhand version of these sets through auction sites, at a much higher price of course. ^^; Then again, I don't think I can afford the regular price even if they are still available, or to really seriously consider spending on any of them when Lego isn't exactly my real interest. ^^

This set from the Creator series however, is a very nice design at a very decent price. ^^

Creator No. 4997 Transport Ferry, released in 2008 with 1,279 pieces in total. The box itself is awesomely huge! ^^

Way bigger than the first two sets I bought: No. 5529 Basic Brick Sets and Technic No. 8045 Mini Telehandler ^^

A little shorter than a larger-sized MG box, but has much greater width.

Main model: transport ferry

Main gimmicks: front doors opens, front and rear gates can be lowered.

Can be assembled into 2 alternate models: transport hovercraft or a cargo plane.
Each alternate model has their own gimmicks as well. ^^

Each model comes with one or two mini vehicles: SUV with trailer for the transport ferry, a vintage car and a jeep for the hovercraft and a mini truck for the plane.

The back of the box has pictorial introduction on all the models and their gimmicks.

The top of the box shows you the crazy piece count of the entire set. ^^

Made in Denmark, Hungary or the Czech Republic.

All 17 packages of parts. These two are among the largest ones.

The large pieces ...

... the medium-sized ones ...

... and the tiny ones.

All five manuals included. Each one is equivalent to the manual of a Perfect Grade Gunpla kit in terms of thickness. ^^
All pages are in color print, very cool. ^^

Two manuals for the transport ferry.

Do and don't when assembling your Lego models. ^^

Some pages from the transport ferry's manual.

About 100 pages in total for the entire model. There are a few very awesome extra pages at the end of the manual showing you the design and production of this particular set.

Talking about working in a toy factory. ^^

Preview on several other sets from the Creator series.
The white convertible (No. 4993) is another very cool release in my opinion.

Two manuals for the transport hovercraft.

Some pages from the transport hovercraft's manual.

One manual for the cargo plane, but is 73 pages in total. ^^

Two dedicated pages showing a much clearer part count of the entire set on the back of the cargo plane's manual.

Some really unconventional Lego piece design for me. ^^

Special ear design on one side of box that allows you to fasten the box.

One very special thing about Lego sets is the lack of textual information printed on the box and in the manual. The latter is completely "textless" when it comes to assembling the model. Even the name of the set: "Transport Ferry" is totally absent in and outside the box. ^^

By this point I've already completed the main model, which will be shown in the next two postings. For those who are interested, you can watch the two video clips below first to see how the ferry is built ^^
